Wailoa Center announces a call to artists for the second annual Contemporary Craft Juried Exhibition scheduled for Sept. 8-28.

Artwork in glass, ceramics, metal, wood, fiber and mixed mediums will be accepted. Artists can submit up to five entries online at hawaiicraftsmen2017.artcall.org.

The center will host a submission “help day” for artists between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Aug. 9 by appointment only. The submission window closes at 9 p.m. Aug. 18. A reception for the chosen artists is from 5-7 p.m. Sept. 8.

This year’s Contemporary Craft Juried Exhibition is sponsored by Hawaii Island Art Alliance in association with the Hawaii Craftsmen organization, which is celebrating its 50th year. Members of Hawaii Craftsmen receive a discount on entry submissions.

The juror for the Contemporary Craft show is glass artist Mark Mitsuda of Honolulu, who teaches glassblowing at Punahou School and serves as secretary on the executive board of Hawaii Craftsmen and the program chairman for Aha Hana Lima. His current body of work explores utilitarian vessels though the lens of Venetian technique and contemporary design.

There will be first place, honorable mention and people’s choice awards for each category of glass, ceramics, wood, metal, fiber and mixed media.

Wailoa Center, at 200 Piopio St., is a facility of the Division of State Parks, Department of Land and Natural Resources. It is free and open to the public from 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, closed Saturday, Sunday and state holidays.
